2020 Travel the World - Week 18

I started a Travel the World Series last year. (It should be noted that I did a similar thing in 2018, only it was the 50 states.) For 50 weeks in 2019, I visited a different country (virtually) and shared facts about that country. I then selected one tidbit of information about that week's country as inspiration for a card. Fifty weeks; fifty countries... BUT there are 195 countries in the world so that was just a little over 25% of them. Of course I couldn't stop, so this year I'm continuing with fifty more countries, one per week.

This week's country is...

Kuwait

Kuwait is a small Arab country on the Persian Gulf in Asia. It is one of the smallest countries in the world.

The official name of the country is the State of Kuwait. Situated in the northern edge of Eastern Arabia at the tip of the Persian Gulf, it shares borders with Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

Kuwait is slightly smaller than the state of New Jersey in terms of land area. And the United States of America is 552 times bigger than Kuwait.

The flat, sandy Arabian Desert covers most of Kuwait.
One of the hottest countries in the world especially between June to August. Rainfall averages 2 days in the year. Kuwait has several sandstorms every year.
The majority of its population resides along the coastal region.
Kuwait is the only country in the world with no natural water supply from lakes or reservoirs .
Kuwait has nine islands, all of which, with the exception of Failaka Island, are uninhabited.
Kuwait is reportedly the third richest country per capita, thanks mostly to its natural oil reserves!
Kuwait Towers is a group of three slender towers that symbolizes Kuwait’s economic resurgence and also World cultural as well as touristic landmark. The structure is often referred to as Kuwait tower in singular although there are three towers. Standing on a promontory into the Arabian Gulf, Kuwait towers were officially inaugurated in 1979 and are rated as a tourist attraction and iconic building of modern Kuwait.
Kuwait is the first country to introduce camel racing in 2006 with robotic jockeys on board the animals.
Falcons are found in various places throughout Kuwait. Kuwaiti stamps and currencies always contain falcon imagery. The falcon is its national bird
Kuwait is the first Gulf country to have established a constitution and parliament. There are no railways in Kuwait.
Kuwaiti food is primarily based on the staple product of rice.
Kuwait has the 15th-tallest sculpted tower in the world – The Al Hamra Tower. Located in Kuwait City, it is also the country’s tallest tower and the 23rd tallest in the world. It took almost six years to complete. It is 414 meters tall with 80 floors.
There are 141 males for every 100 females in the country.
The average life expectancy in Kuwait is 78 years.
If a man presents a woman with a gift, it cannot come from him but must come from his wife, mother, sister or another female relative.
Homes in Kuwait are generally clustered to serve the need for space for the extended family. More rooms are built as the need to accommodate more family members arises.
Direct contact between women and strange men is avoided at all times and the homes are also built in such as way that privacy of the inhabitants is preserved at all times.
economy is mostly petroleum based. Fertilizers and petroleum are their main export products.
I decided to let this Kuwait fact be the inspiration for this week's card... Because of difficult climatic conditions in the country, farming is not possible. Instead, Kuwait buys food from other countries and catches fish on its own.
