The Daily Marker Coloring Challenge - Day 11

This is the eleventh day of The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge. This always stretches me. I love participating.

This time I've made the decision to stamp/ink one of the many previously uninked stamps in my vast collection to color each day. To make this even more challenging, I'm going to use a stamp from a different company each of the 30 days.

Yes... that's 30 uninked images from 30 different companies. I. can. do. it.

I'm only coloring images this time and will make cards with these colored images at some point in the future.

Travel the World - Week 25

This is the 25th week in my Travel the World personal challenge. Each week I am randomly choosing one country (there are 195 countries in the world) and doing a little research on that country. I then select one tidbit of information about the country as inspiration for the card I make.

This week's country is...

United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates is a federation made up of 7 emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ra’s al-Khaimah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain and Fujairah.

Almost everyone here is rich and there are no taxes on income.

Everything in this middle-eastern country is opulent. The world’s largest fleet of the largest airplane in the world is operated by the UAE and it was the very first airline to provide its passengers with an on-board shower.

More than 50% of the citizens of the United Arab Emirates are under the age of 25, making it one of the most youthful nations in the world.

The week starts on Sunday in United Arab Emirates; being the day that children head off to school and their parents head off to work. But don’t worry, they get two days off in a week—Friday and Saturday. Most Middle Eastern countries follow this pattern because Friday is a special day for afternoon prayers in Islam, and this pattern enables Muslims to fulfill this duty.

Dubai, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, has 1,344 completed skyscrapers – that’s very little compared with Hong Kong (6,606) and New York (6,180). The city is indeed home to the world’s tallest tower (Burj Khalifa), which peaks at 828 metres.

The Dubai Mall is the world’s largest shopping mall. Its internal area covers 5.9 million square feet.

Dubai also has the largest man-made island in the world, the Palm Islands. It consists of hotels and resorts as well.

The United Arab Emirates has a literacy rate of 93%.

Women in the United Arab Emirates account for about 70 per cent of all university graduates in the country and fill around two thirds of government jobs.

Camels are an important and fascinating part of the country’s tradition and history. From owning camel farms, partaking in camel racing and even drinking camel milk, no visit to the United Arab Emirates is complete without understanding how integral this animal is to Emirati culture and tradition.

The city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates holds the Guinness World Record for the longest driverless metro system with a total of 46.35 miles of track. The temperature in the station is also maintained at a constant 20°C!

The police forces in the United Arab Emirates have some extravagant cars to catch speedsters; these include a Lamborghini, a Ferrari and a Bentley!

There are close to 3,500 native plant species in the United Arab Emirates and the date plant is the most well-known indigenous plant.

The country grows dates, vegetables and watermelons; they also rear poultry and cattle, catch fish and produce dairy products.

The dried date fruit, from the local palm trees of the United Arab Emirates, is one of the most well-known and popular points of pride for local Emirati families. Cultivated for thousands of years, many families still own large date farms and continue to pass down the tactics of how to collect and harvest these special dates.

Every state in the United States exports to the United Arab Emirates, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Dubai has no address system, no zip codes, no area codes and no postal system. For a package to be sent properly, the sender would have to leave proper directions to the destination of said package.

I decided to let this United Arab Emirates fact be the inspiration for this week's card... The United Arab Emirates is the largest customer for Boeing commercial aircraft and has more than 40 airports.

My Second Subscription Box

Come Sail Away with Me

About a month ago I had a blog post featuring the cards I made from my first Pink & Main Subscription Box. You can see that blog post HERE.

I committed to three months, so today's blog post is featuring cards from my second Pink & Main Subscription Box. Like I did last month, I made three cards with this month's box.

As usual, I decorated the insides of my cards, too, but to conserve on photos in this blog post I am not sharing photos that include a peek at the insides.

Card #1

I heat embossed the seashells with the embossing powder that was included in the Subscription Box.

Card #2

Card #3

It doesn't show up in the photos much, but the piece of designer paper that I used from the paper pad that was included in the Subscription Box has a graduated blue design to it, which makes me think of waves in the water.

I enjoyed using this Subscription Box and will look forward to seeing what Pink & Main has in mind for the July Subscription Box.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

The only thing I used in addition to the items in the Subscription Box (as seen on photo) was some cardstock: Recollections Black and Kraft and Stampin' UP! Dapper Denim.

I colored with Copic Markers.

A Robot Birthday

Do you ever need a birthday card for a child? If so, I'd recommend checking out the Raisin Boat Robo Party stamp set - and good news! It's on sale!

There are so many fun images in this set; I had a difficult time choosing which one/s to use on my card for today. I ended up choosing just two, plus a sentiment, but I can assure you I will be using this stamp set again soon.

You can find Robo Party in the SumMore Fun online store - HERE.

Here is my card:

I actually stamped the balloon right on top of the robot image, making it look like just one image.

Sunflower Scarecrow

One of the things I like about Eyelet Outlet products is they are so versatile. They can be used in a variety of ways. For today's card I have a couple of tips to share.

First, let me show you the card:

Eyelet Outlet Products Used:

Green Washi Tape (similar to this one)

Now, about my tips:

Tip #1 - The Sunflower Washi Tape is glittery, which is great, but for a scarecrow card it just seemed a bit too glitzy. My solution was to put a piece of vellum over the top of it. Then I added the Checked Washi Tape over the top of the washi to help secure everything.

Tip #2 - I wanted leaves for my sunflowers to coordinate with the leaf on the scarecrow's hat, but I didn't have any leaves. No problem. I had green Washi Tape. I folded the tape so it was "sealed" and then I hand cut two leaves.

I then poked a hole in toward the end of each leaf and added it to one of the Sunflower Brads.

Then it was just a matter of attaching the brad to the card like normal. How fun is that!?!?!

Christmas CraZy 2019 - Card #3

Pansy hosts a Christmas CraZy group on SCS. The members chat and encourage one another. We also swap with one another every other month - but it's an easy swap. Pansy pairs us with a partner and we each send our partner a packet that includes a Christmas image and DP. Sentiments are optional.

This round I was partnered with Susan. She sent me some darling images and beautiful papers to work with - Stampin' UP! Wishing You Cheer and Graphic 45 Christmas Carol.

Thank you, Susan! I hope you like my card.

In addition to the papers and image/sentiments that Susan sent me (I colored the image with Copic Markers), I used the following supplies from my stash...

Squeeze the Day

It's summertime - so of course we're all wanting refreshing drinks to quench our thirst, right? I'm an iced tea drinker (year round!) and not much of a fan of water (my bad!) BUT I do enjoy water with a bit of Lime Juice.

so. refreshing.

I used The Project Bin's Yello! stamp set to make this CAS card. Yes, I know it's intended to be lemons...but why not limes?

I also stamped a "lime" inside the card:

Celebrating Dairy Month

Today is a special day - first, it's my sister's birthday. Happy Birthday, Jeannie!

BUT... it's also the third Wednesday of the month, which means it's the day that Kelly, Barb, and I post our Ready Set Go challenge cards. These are not just the ordinary themes. They are extreme themes... a bit more over the top. We take turns choosing the theme. This month it was Barb's turn.

Here are her instructions...

June 19th is our posting date and I am going to make it an easy challenge.  June is Dairy Month and being from Wisconsin as well as  growing up on a farm, this was always a fun month.   As 4-H member, we had an Ice Cream Social every year during June.  There are also many Farm Breakfasts that are held to honor the farmers.  Culvers Restaurants was founded in Wisconsin in 1984 and they honor farmers all month long with special events and contests..  So—please create a card or other project that honors Dairy Month.  Farmers, Food, Animals, etc.—anything that reminds you of dairy.  Easy-Peasy.  Ready? Set. Go!

At first glance you might think her theme is not too challenging. That is until you look at my stash of stamps. Yep. I have an extensive collection (more stamps than anyone needs, or so some would say). However... I found that I was quite lacking in the "dairy" theme.

I do have a very VERY old CC Designs stamp set called Annabelle that has two quirky/funny cow images in it - and I decided to use one of them. The truth is, I purchased this stamp set used I'm guessing a decade or more ago. And I don't remember every using it until now. That just shouldn't be.

I'm pretty sure this comical cow wasn't quite what Barb had in mind for her theme... but hopefully I made her smile anyway.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!
Be sure to head over to Barb's blog and Kelly's blog to see their cards, too.

Travel the World - Week 24

This is the 24th week in my Travel the World personal challenge. Each week I am randomly choosing one country (there are 195 countries in the world) and doing a little research on that country. I then select one tidbit of information about the country as inspiration for the card I make.

This week's country is...

Switzerland

In Switzerland, you’re never more than 10 miles away from a lake. In total, there are about 1,500 of them in the country.

Around 8 million people live in Switzerland. It is one of the smallest countries in Europe.

There’s a festival held every three years in Switzerland with 10,000 yodelers, flag-throwers and alphorn players showing off their special skills.

Switzerland produces the most chocolate in the world. They also consume more chocolate than people in any other country.

Hydroelectric power is popular in Switzerland. Over 60% of the country's electricity comes from a hydroelectric power source.

Most of the world's luxury watches are produced in Switzerland.

Switzerland’s Aarau railway station holds Europe’s second largest clock face; only the railway station clock in Cergy, France is larger.

Nescafe, the world’s first instant coffee was invented in Switzerland.

Tim Berners Lee invented the World Wide Web in Switzerland in 1989.

Bank tellers are protected by bulletproof glass in Switzerland.

In Switzerland citizens can challenge any law passed by Parliament – provided they can gather 50,000 signatures against the law within 100 days. If successful, a national vote is held and voters decide by a simple majority whether to accept or reject the law.

Switzerland is one of the only two countries to have a square flag – the Vatican has the only other square flag in the world. The Swiss flag is a red square with a white cross in the centre.

Snowboarding, skiing, and mountaineering are popular sports in Switzerland.

Globi, a Swiss cartoon character, is the most popular character in Switzerland.

Charlie Chaplin spent the last 25 years of his life in Switzerland.

Coffee in Zurich is the most expensive in the world.

There are Swiss taxes for owning a dog – annual taxes are determined by the dog’s size and weight. Dog owners are also required to take a training course to learn how to properly care for their pets.

It’s against the law to keep only one guinea pig. You need to have a pair.

Switzerland’s Gotthard tunnel is the longest in the world.

The people of Switzerland can lease, or rent, cows. The person that rents the cow is entitled to receive all of the cheese created by the milk taken from the cow.

Swiss men have the longest life expectancy in the world.

Almost half of marriages in Switzerland end in divorce.

I decided to let this Switzerland fact be the inspiration for this week's card... Teaching in Switzerland is one of the uppermost paid professions.
