CAS823 Clean Up

Each Monday there is a new CAS Challenge on SCS. It's always fun to see what others create using the CAS theme.

I had the privilege of hosting this week and chose the theme is...

Clean Up

I had intended to pick up some things from my work space (crafting area) and create a card with them. However, I am one of THOSE crafters who clean up after every card, so there was nothing to pick up and use.

On to Plan B. A vacuum cleaner is used to clean up, right?

Here's my card:

I hope you'll check out the challenge - HERE - and play along, too.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Double Duty 2023 - My Favorite Things

In January of 2021, my stamping comrades Barb and Kelly and I debuted a new series/challenge. Double Duty was Barb's idea... and it is a GREAT idea! I've had so much fun with this series. Thanks for inviting me to play along, Barb!

This is Barb's description of the Double Duty concept...

Each month, we get to pick a stamp set from a predetermined company. Then, we will use that one stamp set and make two cards from the set.  Different images and sentiments from the same set can be used, or use the same image two different ways—Double Duty either way!  But, as an added challenge, one item must be used on both cards—same color cardstock, same ribbon, same stencil, same something.  Double Duty Again!  Post both cards on your blog on the same day—the 22nd of each month.  See-Double Duty again!  Have fun getting doubly inky each month with a different stamp company.  Let’s have fun!

Over the past year, things have changed a bit in who's participating, but not in the instructions. This year's Double Duty crafters are Barb, Carol, Darlene, and me.

Oh, and yes, I am a day late this month, since yesterday was dedicated to a design team post here on my blog.

This month's company is My Favorite Things.

The thing/s that are the same on both cards (as per the challenge specifications) are: the Stampin' UP! Exposed Brick Embossing Folder was used for the background and I used pearls as embellishments on both cards.

ONE to See in '23 - December

The 3rd of each month is a special day here on my blog - it's the day that Kelly (the founder of this series), Barb, and I share our One Plus Twelve cards. The idea is to use the same ONE stamp (not a set) each month to create a card. Sentiments can be used, too, if we choose.

My ONE stamp this year is a small stamp - a paintbrush from the Waffle Flower Little Painter stamp set.

And the 1 + 12 Series for 2023 is a wrap... but don't despair. We three have decided to choose another stamp and begin again in January. I already have my ONE stamp picked out and am looking forward to revealing it to all of you on January 3, 2024.

Be sure to head over to Barb's and Kelly's blogs to see their December 1 + 12 cards...

Fan Club Christmas 2023 - April

It is no secret that I am a fan of Splitcoaststampers. I joined in January of 2008 and it soon became a place that I loved. Many friendships have been made there, I've gained inspiration and been challenged to try new things, I've participated in swaps and challenges and special events. Many of you totally understand what I mean when I say SCS is my happy place because it's your happy place, too.

I didn't know there was such a thing as an SCS Fan Club in those days, but when I heard about it, I decided to join, thinking I could give back a little bit to the site that means so much to me. Little did I know that I get much more as a fan club member than I ever give. There are just so many fun perks, the monthly Fan Club Christmas/Winter Challenge, being one of them.

Each month you'll find a card here on my blog that I've made with for that month's challenge... but of course, I can't share what the theme is. If you are an SCS fan club member, you can learn all the details there. If you're not, I hope you'll enjoy my card anyway.

Here's this month's card...

I find that having a sketch to use can get my creative ideas flowing, so I love being part of the Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge team. There is a new sketch to work with every Wednesday. I encourage you to check them out.

I'm hosting this week... so I'll be watching for you.

ONE to See in '23 - January

It's January! A new year!!!

Yes, I know this isn't the first of the month/year - but it is a first for this year's One Plus Twelve series, so that makes it a day worth squealing about!

Way back in 2019 Kelly came up with a splendid idea for a series and she invited Barb and I to join her. The premise behind the One Plus Twelve series is both simple and complicated.

Simple - we each choose ONE stamp (not the whole set, just ONE stamp) and we commit to using it to make a card which we'll post on the 3rd of the month. Sentiments are optional.

Complicated - it is so difficult to choose the stamp. What if we choose wrong? What if it makes for a very long year? What if? What if??? I'm telling you, that is the most challenging part of this series.

In 2019 (year #1) I chose an artsy looking dragonfly - Unity Be the Best.

In 2020 I chose a woman - Unity Aleah Girl.

In 2021 I chose a maple leaf - SU Gather Together.

In 2022 I chose a large flower - Altenew Vintage Garden.

This year I wanted to do something totally different; something that would stretch me. After discovering that made the ONE stamp I wanted to use this year had closed and I couldn't find the stamp anywhere, I had to rethink my plan for this year.

I wanted to do something totally different than any of the previous years. I seriously considered using a background stamp because - well! - that would have been totally different.

See what I mean about how complicated the choosing is?

In the end I decided to go with a rather small stamp (the smallest 1 + 12 stamp I've ever used). Ay yi yi! I hope I don't regret this!

My 1 + 12 stamp for 2023 is a PAINT BRUSH. Yes, you read that correctly. It's a little paint brush from the Waffle Flower Little Painter stamp set.

Am I crazy??? Maybe so. One way to find out is to come back to my blog on the 3rd of each month this year to see how I did with my little paintbrush.

Soooo, let's go...

ONE to See in '23 - January

I used Karin Brushmarker Pro markers and some water to create the "splash" of color" on watercolor paper.

Then I splattered additional color onto the piece using a fan paint brush for good flicking of watered down color.

I hope you'll keep an eye out on the 3rd of each month this year to see how I do with this ONE stamp - and also will check out Kelly's and Barb's ONE stamp cards, too. Speaking of which, let's head over to their blogs now to see this month's cards.

Dirty Dozen 2021, April

I had the amazing honor of being invited to join the ranks (or dirt pile, as they lovingly refer to it) of the Dirty Dozen on SCS last year. My term was from April through September. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had fun creating 6 (or more) cards for each of the themes.

April - Grand Opening

May - Family Tree

June - Juke Box

July - Come Fly with Me

August - Kitchen Sink

September - Popping In

Dirty Dozen members have some guidelines to follow. One of them is we can't share our cards for at least six months after the month in which they were released, hence the reason why I didn't show them when I made them.

Another guideline is we are to choose our own personal favorite of the cards we make each month. Sometimes that is easy to do; other times, not so much.

This blog post shows the cards I made for the April Grand Opening theme, beginning with my personal favorite, followed by my other cards, in no particular order.

My Favorite Things - Our Story

Whipper Snapper - Party Koala

SumMore Fun - SodaLighted

Sunny Studio - Pink Peonies

Art Impressions - Get Well

Picket Fence - Fran Girl

Northwoods - Newsprint Jack-o-Lantern

Pink Peonies

I {heart} SCS.

I'm pretty sure it's no secret - splitcoaststampers is my happy place. It's where friendships are made. It's where inspiration is gleaned. It's where tutorials are found. Oh, and did I mention, CHALLENGES (new ones each day of the week)!

Each challenge has a few people who know the themes ahead of time and create cards/samples to be shared when the challenge is introduced. I was delighted when I was asked to join the Sketch Challenge design team for six months. Each Wednesday (February - July 2022) I'll share the card I made for the current week's Sketch Challenge.

This Week's Sketch (#SC906):

Here's my card:

I went with a mini slim line design. They seem to suit my style better than the taller slim line.

I hope you'll check out the Sketch Challenge - HERE - and play along.

Pretty Peonies

It's the very last day of April. Normally by now I would have posted my card featuring the monthly Technique Tuesday Greenhouse Society stamp set. I've been holding this date in anticipation of the arrival of the lovely Anemone stamp set... but alas, it hasn't arrived yet.

Good things are worth waiting for so I'll continue to wait. In the meantime, I've made a card with a different flower stamp set from a different stamp company.
