Catch Up Club - July 2023

In a text conversation amongst friends in the fall of 2022, we agreed that we were all falling behind in creating with items from virtual events, kits, even groups we are in. From that conversation the idea of the Catch Up Club took formation. We decided it was time to work on those cardmaking projects that were waiting for our attention.

On the last day of each month (I'm a day early again this month) we've committed to sharing card/cards we have made from something we need to "catch up" on.

You can view my original Catch Up Club post - HERE - for more details.

You might recall that last month I found a single card kit in a little bin of unfinished projects and made it for my Catch Up Club post. This month I used three other single card kits that were in that bin. I'm embarrassed to say I'm not sure how long they've been there, but long enough that I didn't know where/how to find the directions. These were card kits that Sarah, my SU demo sent me as part of her virtual card club. Since I had no directions; only the pieces to make the cards, I just went with the flow and made what I wanted. LOL! Please forgive me, Sarah!

It should be noted that while most cards posted on my blog are my own designs (albeit sometimes inspired by others), these Catch Up Club cards are not my designs. I've completed cards designed by the class instructor, so while I've made the card, it is not original to me.

Please check out the blogs of my Catch Up Club friends, too...

Let Freedom Ring

One of my favorite challenge groups is the Challenge Your Stash group on SCS, under the capable and organized leadership of my friend Barb. The idea is we can't shop for anything when making our monthly challenge card (which we post on the 28th of each month). I'm a day late this month, since I had a design team post yesterday.

We take turns choosing the theme. This month it was Pansy's turn. She chose the theme...

Feeling Free

I hope Pansy, Barb and the other Challenge Your Stash gals like my card.

DTGD 2023 - Post #2

I am so excited! It's time for Dare to Get Dirty, the annual event on Splitcoaststampers especially for Fan Club members. There are challenges galore - and while anyone/everyone can see the cards made, the challenge details are only seen by Fan Club members.

This year's dates are July 22-28... so get ready to be inspired in the SCS gallery! And if you're not a Fan Club member, this would be an excellent time to become one.

I had the honor of hosting one of the challenges yesterday. Hmmmm... can you guess what the challenge theme is?

I can tell you this much - the challenge probably took some of the participants outside their comfort zone and developed their creativity.

SCS Sketch #SC968

I find that having a sketch to use can get my creative ideas flowing, so I love being part of the Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge team. There is a new sketch to work with every Wednesday. I encourage you to check them out.

Here's this week's sketch - SC968:

My card:

It's always acceptable to tweak the sketch a wee bit and make it your own (there are no SCS police), so that's what I did.

I hope you'll use the sketch to make a card, too.

I'm back again with my third blog post of this month featuring cards I've made using stamps from the New Release at Technique Junkies.

Technique Junkies All About Summer:

I used three colors of paper, triple-layering them in a wonky format. The colors were chosen to replicate the colors of watermelon.

Technique Junkies Blooming Beauty:

The sentiment on this card is from the Technique Junkies Simple Sentiments 2A stamp set.

I can tell you this much - the challenge is hosted by Lori (stamp_momma on SCS)... other than that, you'll hear nothing from me.

Double Duty 2023 - Honey Bee

In January of 2021, my stamping comrades Barb and Kelly and I debuted a new series/challenge. Double Duty was Barb's idea... and it is a GREAT idea! I've had so much fun with this series. Thanks for inviting me to play along, Barb!

This is Barb's description of the Double Duty concept...

Each month, we get to pick a stamp set from a predetermined company. Then, we will use that one stamp set and make two cards from the set.  Different images and sentiments from the same set can be used, or use the same image two different ways—Double Duty either way!  But, as an added challenge, one item must be used on both cards—same color cardstock, same ribbon, same stencil, same something.  Double Duty Again!  Post both cards on your blog on the same day—the 22nd of each month.  See-Double Duty again!  Have fun getting doubly inky each month with a different stamp company.  Let’s have fun!

Over the past year, things have changed a bit in who's participating, but not in the instructions. This year's Double Duty crafters are Barb, Carol, Darlene, and me.

This month's company is Honey Bee.

Card #1

Card #2

The thing/s that are the same on both cards (as per the challenge specifications) are: the designer paper, the embellishments, and the color of the card base.

Let's check out the other Double Duty cards, too...
