Ink Pad Experiment #7

You might recall that I mentioned I was wanting to invest in some colored ink pads, but am not sure what brand I want so I'm testing some to see which brand best meets my needs. If you missed that blog post, you can check it out - HERE

I'm wanting dye inks that blend smoothly with blender brushes but are also suitable for stamping.

For today's card I used the one and only Pink Fresh ink pad that I own - Sparkling Rose.

I blended the ink onto white cardstock using a La La Land stencil (Snowy Hills). I also blended ink onto a scrap piece of white cardstock that I then used to die cut the word hello.

I really like this ink pad. It has a firmer linen layer but what looks like a different kind of layer below it. It held its shape well while I blended ink onto my brush, which makes me think the pad would hold up well over time. The fear I have with foam pads is that the pad itself will break down rather quickly with blending techniques.

I still have a few brands to try before I decide which I like best.

Let TV Be Your Guide VSN

I hope you've been enjoying the "Let TV Be Your Guide" VSN cards/projects you've been seeing on SCS and social media. Life has been pretty hectic for me the past month or more, so I've not had time to join in the challenges as much as normal, but I've loved the challenge themes, haven't you?

I made samples for Adriana's two challenges... and (so far at least) that's all I have other than my own challenge, which I shared on Saturday's blog post.

Double Duty - My Favorite Things

Barb, Kelly and I have fun creating together even though we live far apart. We have a few challenges each month. You might recognize us in these - Three Musketeers, Ready Set Go, Stamp What, Hot Mess Success. Last month we started a new one, too. The Double Duty Challenge, which was Barb's idea.

Each month we each choose one stamp set from a pre-determined stamp company and make two cards using it. At least one thing has to be seen on both cards (color, embellishment, stamp, etc.). We post on a double-digit day each month, too - the 22nd. Today is the day!

This month's company is My Favorite Things. I chose one of the many Pure Innocence stamp sets I own: Jump for Joy.

I loved to jump rope as a child so when I first saw this stamp set years ago it brought back a lot of fond memories.

Have a Ducky Day

I am honored to be one of the SCS Virtual Stamp Night hostesses. The overall theme of this VSN is Parks and Recreation. The challenges have been fantastic - oh so fun!

Our son Brock was the inspiration for my challenge. Brock LOVES going to the park to feed the ducks. He and his dad go almost every single day. We have a nice park - Leo French Park - that has a walking trail complete with a covered bridge. Brock's ducks (which include various kinds of ducks and geese) know him and often when come waddling over as soon as he gets out of the car, since they know he'll have something to feed them.

The thing that always amazes me is how Brock isn't bothered when the ducks come up and surround him, quack, quack, quacking away. Brock is terrified of dogs and not too eager to get close to cats either, but his ducks don't bother him one bit.

Anyway, back to my challenge... for my VSN Parks and Recreation theme, I simply asked the participants to include at least one duck on their cards.

I have a lot of duck stamps to choose from (I wonder why???). I ended up using the La La Land You Lucky Duck stamp set for my sample card.

It took 30 minutes to make my simple card.

During the hour that my challenge was live, I made another duck card, too. I used the Your Next Stamp Quackers stamp set.

Parks and Recreation VSN Mini

Yesterday was SCS's Mini VSN (Virtual Stamp Night) with fabulous challenges and lots of fun "chatting" in the threads, too. If you're not familiar with VSN, I highly recommend checking it out. The mini is held a month before the BIG event... it gets us ready for excited about the 2-day event, which will be held March 19-20. Each challenge host gives the details and then we have an hour to make a card because there's a new challenge each hour. This VSN theme is Parks and Recreation so the challenges will have something to do with that.

Kim's Concerts in the Park Challenge included two requirements -

1. Something musical for the CONCERT like instruments, sheet music, singers

2. At least one of these elements for the PARK - bandshell, trees, blankets, snacks, benches, flag

I chose my man Elvis for the singer on my card (La La Land Singing Luka, to be specific) and tried to create the look of a bandshell, with the arched background and wood plank floor. I also used designer paper with trees on it.

It took 50 minutes to make this card.

Misti's Butterflies Challenge called for having at least one butterfly on the card.

It took 40 minutes to make this card.

Lee's Snowy Mountains Challenge was to make a card with mountains with snow on them. I wanted some glitter paper for my mountain tops -  but didn't have any (since I really dislike glitter) - so I used some wide glittery washi tape for my snowcaps.

It took 45 minutes to make this card.
