Hot Mess - April 2024

I'm a day late. Yesterday was the 12th but it was a busy DT day on my blog so I'm posting my Hot Mess Success card today instead. As you likely recall from previous 12ths, I am not one who likes messes. Not one bit. BUT a challenge is only a challenge if it stretches you, and I'm up for the Hot Mess Success Challenge.

Barb, Carol, Darlene, Terry, and I create cards for the Hot Mess Success challenge each month and share them on the 12th.

It's Anything Goes - as long as there is something messy involved.

Sarah, of The Paper Cut was at the retreat I went to last week. She demonstrated how to "pounce" alcohol ink onto Yupo paper. It was a lot of fun - especially watching the design form without any real planning. For this month's Hot Mess card I pulled out my small stash of alcohol inks and gave it another try.

The color are so rich and vibrant! I was really quite happy with how it turned out, even if my fingers are VERY blue.

Be sure to check out the other Hot Mess gals blogs, too, to see their cards (you'll be WOW'd!)...

Very Late or Very Early - You Decide

Do you ever get behind? Seriously behind??? I know I do.

Case in point. I stamped a beautiful image - in early December - thinking it would make a lovely Christmas card. I even stamped a sentiment.

Then.

Then I got distracted with everything going on and I never made the card.

I took the pieces with me to a stamping retreat last week and I am happy to say it is now finished. Sooo... I have a card ready for Christmas 2024.

The stamp set has coordinating stencils so the coloring on my card was done with ink blending.

Peaceful Florals, 3M Style

Kelly, Barb, and I have been creating together as the Three Musketeers every month since November 2014. We all three create a card using the same image. I always enjoy seeing how different our cards are, even though we use the same image. This is one of my favorite posts of the month.

We take turns choosing what stamp will be used. This month it was my turn. I chose the Gina K Peaceful Florals Mini stamp set.

Be sure to check out Barb's and Kelly's cards, too...

A Shoebox Birthday

I am currently at a crafting retreat with 11 of my friends. Though I'm preparing this blog post in advance of the retreat, I'm sure we are creating, laughing, eating way too much, and sleeping too little. And none of us would change any of that.

My friend Barb is the host of this event and she truly spoils us. She also has fun activities that we all have the option of participating in. The White Elephant gift exchange was a HUGE hit last year and I'm sure this year's is, too.

All 12 of us signed up to participate in the Shoebox Swap. I hope the others have fun making the card I designed and created kits for.

Here it is:

It's always acceptable to tweak the sketch a wee bit and make it your own (there are no SCS police), so that's what I did.

I hope you'll use the sketch to make a card, too.

ONcE More in '24 - April

The 3rd of each month is a special day here on my blog - it's the day that Kelly (the founder of this series), Barb, and I share our One Plus Twelve cards. The idea is to use the same ONE stamp (not a set) each month to create a card. Sentiments can be used, too, if we choose.

My ONE stamp this year is a beautiful floral (a very large one) from the Altenew Pristine Peonies stamp set.

I colored the image in soft colors of lilac and green, then used the die to cut it out and used foam tape to lift if off of the lattice look created by another die.

I hope you'll keep an eye out on the 3rd of each month to see how I do with this ONE stamp this year. You'll also be able to see Barb's and Kelly's cards on Instagram as well as their blogs...

Family Love

I hope you had a wonderful Easter. For many, that means time spent with family so it seems appropriate that I have a family-themed set of cards to share with you today.

I used the same Technique Junkies stamp for all three cards - Being a Family. Truthfully, all three cards are mostly the same. The same design. The same embellishments. The big difference is the way I colored the greenery in each of the cards.

On this first card, I used my "normal" method. I stamped on white cardstock and colored with Copic markers.

Then I decided to use some Crumb Cake (Kraft-colored) cardtock and color with colored pencils.

I colored the image with a white colored pencil, which resulted in a soft/subtle look.

I wanted to try one more look.

This time I again stamped the image on white cardstock, but instead of coloring it with a white colored pencil, I used two green colored pencils.

So, I'm curious. Which of the three looks do you like best? Are there other combinations of paper/color you would try?

I hope you've enjoyed seeing these three variations.
