Mid-Week Joy Report

I was gone for most of this week - I went to Tennessee for some training. It was a great workshop. I learned a lot! And it was nestled in the Appalachian mountains, so the views - and the drive - were fabulous!

It did curtail my card-making this week, though. I only made 2 cards this week.

* * * * *

This is the 24th Wednesday of 2017, so I read the 24th chapter of the book 50 Truths Worth Knowing and used it as my inspiration for today's card.

Perfection Is Overrated
50 Truths Worth Knowing, chapter 24

As a child, Anndee took piano lessons. She remembers being somewhat afraid of her piano teacher who smelled of talcum powder and x=corrected her with a stern voice when she made a mistake.

Anndee took lessons from her for four years, and then quit, finding her interests gravitated more toward algebra, poetry, and art.

Years later, when Anndee was in her 20's she decided to give piano lessons another try. This time she had a different teacher - one who introduced her to ragtime and jazz, along with classical music. Anndee liked her new teacher, but old habits are difficult to flee, so she often found herself sitting stiffly at the piano and playing hesitantly. One day her teacher asked her why she was so timid when playing. Anndee responded, "I'm afraid of missing a note."

The teacher smiled and then drew Anndee's attention to the chaos around her. The teacher had three young children, so her home was strewn with children's toys and other items, all in a colorful disarray. She reminded Anndee that there was no need for perfection, instead she could embrace the piano enthusiastically and with passion. That was a music-changing moment for Anndee.

I can imagine Anndee did exactly what the quote on my card says. She took a deep breath and let it go.
