Always Grateful

Suzy is the hostess of the Creative Card Chicks group on SCS this month and she sent us a fun set of goodies to play with.

Here's what Suzy told us...

Since November is the last of the fall months I decided to use the set Always Thankful. This is the time of year we sit down and think of our list of things we are thankful for. "Because thee is always something for which to be thankful" ... to quote Charles Dickens.

Happy Thanksgiving, Y'all!

SU Always Thankful on Recollections 110# White with Memento Tuxedo Black ink

Papers: Glitz French Kiss Script (burlap) from Joann's, Paper Studio Gingham HL, Peach Brush Strokes Recollections

Ribbon: yellow and brown burlap from The Ribbon Boutique HL

I hope Suzy and the other Chickies like my card!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

The only thing of my own that I used in making this card was some cardstock (Recollections Black and SU So Saffron).

It's Thanksgiving - Eat Pie!

"Go vegetarian and just Eat Pie," says the Turkey.

Thursdays are the days that I post cards made with stamps from The Project Bin. For today's card I used the Eat Pie stamp set. It obviously is a GREAT stamp set for Thanksgiving... but don't put it away after today. There are certainly other times that pie would make a fun card. For instance, what kind of pie could we have for Christmas? Pecan? And should we take an apple pie on a picnic this summer???

The pie was so easy to make. I used two Stampin' UP! punches (1 3/8" circle and Scalloped Circle) but you could also use circle dies to make it. The pie crust is sponged with ink to give it some depth, but you can still see the Creamy Caramel CS peeking through in spots. The pumpkin pie filling is actually a piece of ivory CS that I completely covered with three different colors of Ranger distress inks to attain the color that I wanted.

I turned the pic upside down and with a ruler and pencil, I drew lines to show where to cut the piece of pie. Then I did so with a pair of sharp tip scissors (the kind that cut completely to the tip).

On the card front I didn't want the entire Eat Pie & Give THANKS stamp. so I covered the part I didn't want to use with a post it note when inking the stamp (just in case a bit of ink got where I didn't want it) then I removed the post it note before stamping onto the paper.

I did use the entire stamp on the inside of my card:

RSG with Portion Control

It's the third Wednesday of the month which means it is time for the Ready, Set, Go trio to post our cards. This month Kelly is the one who chose our theme. It's a GREAT one, for sure, especially during the holidays.

Portion Control!

These are Kelly's instructions...

Typically in November, we gather together with friends and family and celebrate the bountiful harvest with gratitude and thanksgiving!  And that usually includes lots of food :)  No need to loosen a button or unbuckle the belt for this month the RSG!

For the crafty side of November, we’re going to show portion control!  On this month’s card, use only a portion of your image!  No full stamping ... only part of your image can be on the paper.  For example, have a large flower stamp? Set it off the the edge of the paper!  You can add more than one - creating a collage effect if you like - but no full images, including only highlighting part of it like a spotlight technique (as the full image is visible below it.)  Have fun choosing your image and enjoy keeping the portions Lighter! At least for your cards.

So, I needed to decide on which stamp/set to use. I knew it needed to be something that had a larger size image in it (for my comfort zone). This challenge obviously could be accomplished without that, but it would just make it so much easier for me to do if it was on the larger size.

I ended up choosing the Unity Abundant Blessings stamp set.

I'm so glad I did, because I'm actually quite excited about how this card turned out, even in its simplicity.

These flowers were just so delightful to color:

Yep, I kind of like this kind of Portion Control!

Let's head over to Kelly's blog and Barb's blog to see how they exercised Portion Control.

Personal Challenge 2018 - Week 47

This is the 47th week of my personal 50-week States of the Union Challenge. Each week I research one of the 50 United States (in the order they attained statehood). I share tidbits of information about the state here on my blog and I create a card that is inspired by something about that state.

This week's state (the 47th one to attain statehood) is...

New Mexico
Date of Statehood: January 6, 1912

New Mexico is the 5th largest state in the United States of America, but it is the 36th most populous state.

The lowest temperature ever recorded in New Mexico was -50 degrees, while the highest was 122, making it one of the largest ranges in any state.

With the lowest water to land area of any of the U.S. states, New Mexico's lakes and rivers account for just .002% of the state's surface area. Though the total area of New Mexico is relatively large at 121,665 square miles, it only has 250 square miles of surface water.

In 1607, roughly 13 years before the pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock, Santa Fe was founded, making it the second oldest town in current day America. It was originally founded as La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asis, but its name was changed in 1610.

The Mile High City, Denver, has nothing on New Mexico, as Santa Fe is 7,000 feet above sea level, making it the nation’s highest capital. The highest point in New Mexico is Wheeler Peak at 13,000.

At over 8,000 feet, the Capulin Volcano is so tall that five states can be seen from the top: New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas.

For at least 1,000 years, the people of Taos Pueblo have lived in their surreal, multi-story-apartment-like town. Human habitation of the area dates back perhaps 5,000 years, but it wasn’t until around 1,000 AD that the current adobe dwellings were constructed by two different groups of Tiwa peoples who came together to build the still-thriving community.

New Mexico has more PhDs per capita than any other state.

One out of every three families in New Mexico speaks Spanish as well as English.

On July 16, 1945, the very first atomic bomb was detonated in the desert sands of the Jornada del Muerto in south-central New Mexico. Known by its code name, Trinity, it was of the same design as the bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, a few weeks later. The Trinity Site is located on the White Sands Missile Range and is now a National Historic Site.

Smokey Bear was invented in New Mexico after the Capitan Gap fire of 1950, which burned 17,000 acres of land.

About 75% of New Mexico’s roads are unpaved.
New Mexico has more cows than people.

More chili peppers are born in New Mexico than all other states combined.

Albuquerque has more than 300 local hot air balloons, making it the hot air balloon capital of America with more than any other city.

Due to its explicit nature, roughly 400 words were ordered to be removed from Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” by New Mexico Officials.

According to the New Mexican constitution, “idiots” are not allowed to vote. They don’t really give a clear definition of who gets included in that definition.

It is illegal to provide glue, spray paint, permanent marker, or paint to a child without a parent's consent.

You can’t legally dance while wearing your sombrero.

You can be arrested for spitting in public in New Mexico.

It's against the law to throw something onto the field during a athletic event.

It is against the law to trip a horse.

Women cannot legally pump their own gas or change a flat tire in New Mexico.

It is against the law to carry a lunchbox down Main Street in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

I decided to go with this bit of New Mexico information for my card's inspiration... Averaging roughly 12 people per square mile, the people of New Mexico are greatly outnumbered by the livestock in their state.

You can see I'm still decorating the insides of my cards - always!

Goofy Reindeer and Adorable Snowmen

Darlene is the hostess of this round (#49, can you believe it!?!?!) of the Mystery Image card swap which means she chose the images we would use. She went with a "classic, blast from the past" stamp set from Stampin' UP! called Holiday Lineup. I used two of the images from the set - the Goofy Reindeer and the Adorable Snowmen.

You can see a wee bit of the inside of my card (I do still decorate the inside of every card I make, I just don't always photograph it)...

Thanks for making Round #49 a lot of fun, Darlene!

All Dressed Up for the Wedding

There's a month-long challenge going on in the SumMore Fun Creations Facebook group but the month is over half over. Someone will win a $20 gift card from the SumMore Fun online store. Wouldn't you like to be the winner? You could be! All you have to do is check out the rules and then create a card for this theme...

All Dressed Up

There are lots of possibilities - what do you think of when you think of All Dressed Up? I think of weddings.

It doesn't show up well,
but some of the flowers on my card are sparkly:

Remember, once you get your card/project made, post a picture in the challenge album in the SumMore Fun Creations Facebook group. I'll be watching to see what you make.
