Where's Waldo (aka Jeanette)?

You might have noticed that I didn't make a card for yesterday's Sketch Challenge. Then today is supposed to be a Double Duty day - my friends have made cards with PinkFresh Studio stamps but not me. UGH!

Lest you think I might be sick - Nope! The problem has been I haven't had access to my stamping area and toys. The reason? The trapdoor to the attic space of our home is directly above my L-shaped desks (two desks that form an L).

I failed to get a picture of it, but for the past two days there has been a ladder under this opening - as the electrician has been here working.

This is exciting, actually. We're doing a kitchen remodel and that includes electrical work.

This is what our kitchen looked like when we bought our home over two years ago:

The cabinets were old but had been freshly painted and the countertop was made by using a marbling paint kit (I know this because the flipper left the remnants of it for us).

Don't ever do this! It peels with very little wear and the least bit of heat causes it to bubble up. Over the past year at least we've known we needed to do something with the kitchen but didn't really want to put new countertop on the old existing cabinets.

Last fall we contacted a cabinet-maker in our town. He has a well-established business with a few employees. They are currently building our cabinets for us with anticipated installation the second week of February.

Now is the time to do the electrical work - a bit of rewiring and adding a couple of outlets. We also need all of the outlets and light switches extended, as we're going to use the same granite for backsplash as the countertops we've ordered.

Here's the granite we picked out (the cabinets are white):

Today the electrician tore out the appliance cabinet so he could work on the outlet that is in it. There were two surprises in that cubbyhole.

A remnant of wallpaper:

and a penny that was used for a leveler:

The new cabinets also have an appliance garage, but right now, that filthy corner is exposed.

I will look forward to sharing pictures of the completed project - but that's going to be a while. For now I'm just hoping I can access my desks soon, as I am missing my toys.

Creative Crew 2026 - January

It's posting day for the Creative Crew. What exactly is the Creative Crew? We are a group of 6 card-making friends from various US locations who have a fun monthly creative adventure with a secretive twist.

Most months one of the group's members acts as hostess, meaning she chooses a theme and then sends each of the group members a theme-appropriate image and some designer paper. The host can also include a sentiment and/or special item if she chooses to do so. The group members all receive the same items, but there is to be no conversation about what was received or the cards we're making. Then, on the 15th of the month, we all reveal our cards.

Occasionally we shake things up and instead of having a hostess we have a common theme and everyone uses her own supplies for the card. This is one of those months.

Our theme this month is...

Snow

Here's my card:

SCS Sketch #SC1097

I have been part of the Sketch team on Splitcoaststampers for a few years now. Whether it's my week to create the sketch (the first Wednesday of each month) or I'm creating a sample card based on the sketch someone else created, I find that having a sketch to use can get my creative ideas flowing.

There is a new sketch to work with every Wednesday. I encourage you to check them out.

I created this week's sketch - #SC1097:

Hot Mess - January 2026

It's the 12th of January, time to get messy. (insert deer-in-the-headlight look) As you likely recall from previous 12ths, I am not one who likes messes. Not one bit. BUT a challenge is only a challenge if it stretches you, and I'm up for the Hot Mess Success Challenge.

Barb, Darlene, Terry, and I create cards for the Hot Mess Success challenge each month and share them on the 12th.

It's Anything Goes - as long as there is something messy involved.

I added Ken Oliver Bursting Powders on Black CS and then diecut the words from it.

The background is stamped and embossed with white, then ink blended to add the pink.

Be sure to check out the other Hot Mess gals blogs, too, to see their cards (you'll be WOW'd!)...

3M Glad We're Friends

Kelly, Barb, and I have been creating together as the Three Musketeers every month since November 2014. We all three create a card using the same image. I always enjoy seeing how different our cards are, even though we use the same image. This is one of my favorite posts of the month. We usually post on the 9th, but I'm a day late this month as I had a DT post on my blog yesterday.

We take turns choosing what stamp will be used. This month it was my turn. I did something a bit different. I chose a sentiment - Glad We're Friends from the Stampendous Snowy Friends stamp set. I told Barb and Kelly they could use images from the stamp set, too, or they could use images from their stash. BUT I wanted them to use the sentiment.

Thank you for being good sports, Kelly and Barb!

I wanted to capture the three of us so I stamped the smaller snowman from the set in wonky positions. Then I colored the three in our favorite colors - Kelly's is green (I tried for a Kelly Green but am not sure I captured that color). Barb's is blue. Mine is lime green.

Be sure to check out Barb's and Kelly's cards, too...
