Try Something New with Falliday

This card was so fun to make. I used the Splash Watercolour Technique that is the SCS Tuesday Challenge this week - TLC662.

There was a video that showed how to do the technique... you can see it HERE. Mine didn't turn out quite as soft as the one in the video did, but I still like it.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

Oops! You Color My World

Dear me... I'm trying to complete the Falliday Fest challenges before the deadline and thought I'd done so. Then I realized I had done the wrong color challenge. So, being a competitive sort and wanting to finish the task, I made an easy card using the correct color challenge.

Hello Honey (I didn't have any of this so I used Crushed Curry)
Tempting Turquoise
Pear Pizzazz
Rose Red

Falliday Continues

I have been working on the seven additional cards for the Falliday Fest... and I am finished. I showed one of them this morning and I'll have one more on my blog Tuesday morning for my Try Something New post. Here are the other five.

First is the challenge for last Tuesday - a color challenge - Delightfully Blissful with a Twist...

Blackberry Bliss
Tangelo Twist
Daffodil Delight
Black (optional)

I didn't have all of these exact colors in my stash so I did a wee bit of substituting, but I got pretty close.

Wednesday's card was a sketch challenge - Sketch Challenge 668.

Thursday's challenge required fussy cutting - Cut It Out!

Saturday's card was a photo inspiration challenge - JellyCat.

There were five pictures to choose from for our inspiration. This is the one I chose...

I also tried a new technique with this card - I saw a Unity Quick Tip video about Sepia coloring and gave it a try. I thought it turned out pretty cool.

I'm not sure why, but I could not get the photo of the inside to show up the right color. UGH!

Sunday's challenge was the Featured Stamper challenge - CraftieJennie is this week's Featured Stamper. I had such a fun time looking through her gallery. I finally chose THIS CARD to CASE.

CraZy About Christmas

I host a group on SCS called Christmas CraZy. Every other month, partners are randomly selected and those partners send each other Christmas images/papers to use in making a card. LJ was my partner this round and she sent me an adorable Inky Antic image (that I've never seen before) and some SU designer papers. THANK YOU, LJ!

I had so much fun coloring the image and adding some sparkle (with Stickles Glitter Glue).

You might have noticed I also added a piece of ribbon to my card (on the front and inside). That was for a very good reason.

A few days ago we learned that the "extra" assignment to reach Yeti status in Falliday Fest is to complete 7 days of the daily challenges on SCS.... so I am working to do that. Friday's Free For All Challenge was called Fiber Is Good For You and the challenge was to use some type of fiber (thread, fabric, felt, ribbon, etc.) on our cards. So I did.

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!

In addition to the items LJ sent me, I used Recollections CS (Black, Red, and White), Stickles Glitter Glue, and Stampin' UP! Ribbon on my card.

Please Bear With Me

I've participated in a lot of challenges over the years - both as a DT member and just because I like challenges. In all the challenges I've done, I don't ever remember doing one with this week's Sweet Stampin' Challenge theme. And I love Love LOVE the theme... it's Bears!

I just had to use an adorable Unity stamp set I've had for a very long time because it makes me smile.

I hope you'll participate in the "Bears" Challenge

Best Witches for the CYS Gals

The 28th of every month is the day the Challenge Your Stash (CYS) group on SCS posts their monthly challenge creations. The premise behind the CYS group is that we must use what we have; we can't purchase anything for our CYS projects.

Jody is our hostess this month, which means she got to choose the theme. This is what she said...

Our household loves Halloween... but my son and I disagree on how we should decorate for the holiday. He says the "scarier" the better and I say the "cuter" the better...

So which side are you on cute or scary?

Your challenge is to use any of those Halloween stamps/papers/embellishments you have in your stash and make a card that would represent how you like to decorate for Halloween... Scary or Cute!

Well, Jody, I'm with you... CUTE all the way!

JOY! and 50 Truths

This cute little skunk might surprise you. Seeing him... and knowing this is the post where I mention how my week went might cause you to think that my week was stinky. But not. Quite the opposite. It has been an absolutely amazing week!!!

I like the number 3 so I'm going to tell you three great things about my week.

First...

Unless I absolutely have to do so, I do not get on my computer on Sundays. I've taken that day as a day of rest. However, because I hosted the Falliday Challenge on Friday of last week, I decided to get on SCS Sunday morning to see if I needed to comment on any entries. I did, but that's not the significant part of this reflection. I also had a private message telling me I had been selected as the Featured Stamper this week. How fun! In case you're unfamiliar with the Featured Stamper feature, other crafters are encouraged to visit your gallery and CASE one of your cards. I have enjoyed seeing so many entries this week - by VERY TALENTED card-makers.

Second...

Sunday evening I got back on my computer for the second time - all because of that Falliday Challenge - and I had an email from Denise, the owner of The Project Bin stamps... inviting me to join her design team. I was super excited... even squealed a wee bit. YAY!!! (You'll want to come back to my blog on Thursday and see my first Project Bin post as a DT member.)

Third...

My husband got home from his trip to the Amazon on Thursday. Brock and I went to the airport to get him and were so glad to see him!

That being said, I did make good use of the time he was away. I did some deep/brutal purging in our home - closets, dressers, pantry, etc. And I have 7 boxes plus some other items to take to the thrift store to prove it, plus a nearly full trash bin outdoors.

AND... I made 25 cards this week.

Yes, it's been a JOY-filled week. Now about that skunk.  This card was inspired by Chapter 43 of the book 50 Truths Worth Knowing.

Love Is Bigger Than Squabbles

Doug reflected on how the dynamics of his family changed through the years. The members of the family seemed to form different interests, etc. and as time went on, many drifted away. There were even squabbles that seemed to change the dynamics of the family in huge ways. For instance, his mother and his beloved aunt (her sister) quit speaking our to some now-unremembered squabble. They didn't speak for years and never visited each other.  Even after his mom moved back to the town where she had grown up. They lived just a few miles from each other, but still didn't speak.

"Then came the diagnosis: My mother had advanced lung cancer. And the prognosis was poor."

Once Louise (his aunt) heard this new, she opened her home and her heart to the sister she hadn't spoken with for years. She cared for her, stayed beside her. During Doug's mom's final days, they talked about growing up on the farm together, about their hopes for their children, about life. And when his mom died, Aunt Louise was by her side.

My Hope Is In God

I am in a Bible Journaling (BAJ) group on SCS. Every month we have a theme. This month's theme is Hope.

So be strong and courageous,
all you who put your hope in the Lord!
Psalm 31:24

I had previously journaled on the opposite page (4-11-17), so I wanted to create today's page in similar colors, and style so they would look good together. I think I succeeded.

Try Something New - Pull Out Card

I'm a day late... I planned it that way, though... and here is my Try Something New for this week. It's actually another Falliday Fest Challenge. The tutorial challenge is to make a Panel Pull Out Card. I'd never even heard of a Panel Pull Out Card. So, I clicked the link and went in search of directions - HERE. They even gave me all of the measurements... making this card very easy to create.

I added two tiny brads for the eyes and I realized too late that I had spaced them too far apart...  which gives my snowman a wide-eyed look, for sure. Oh well.... I'm sure the children who build snowmen don't always get the coal eyes placed just right either.

I did add a Belly Band to my card because I didn't like the way it didn't want to lay flat. LOL! My band slips on from the top - because snowflakes should be at the top, right? That meant that the image couldn't be attached completely to the top. But that's okay with me.

Here it is all opened up:

Here's a close up of the saying:
